Preparing for your Boudoir Session
Wardrobe
• Pick out lingerie/garments that highlight your body and personal style.
• Have a matching dark, light or color set of bras + panties in lacy, sporty or smooth styles.
• Cheeky underwear is recommended, thongs don’t photograph as well.
• Consider wearing a fitted T-shirt, cozy sweater, over-sized button-down, sheer top, favorite jeans, shorts, jacket, blazer, heels.
• Proper fit is very important. Make sure you’re not being squeezed by your garments or that they are too loose.
• If lingerie hasn’t been worn in a while, it can lose its shape. It’s also possible that your body has changed (thanks gravity). Please try on all items ahead of your session to ensure a good fit.
A few days before your session
• If you wax, do so a few days before your shoot to avoid any bumpiness or redness.
• Make sure your eyebrows are shaped and groomed.
• If you need a haircut or color, make an appt. a few days before your session to make sure you ‘re happy.
• Stay out of the sun to avoid blotchy skin and do not spray tan. It does not photograph well.
• Drink plenty of water for hydrated skin.
• Lower your salt intake and avoid alcohol if you’re worried about retaining water.
• Try on your outfits and lingerie to make sure they fit properly. Look in the mirror, try a few poses and make sure you’re comfortable. Remove all tags and labels.
• Steam or iron your outfits and hang them so they keep their shape.
• Don’t pick at facial or body blemishes, which will make them worse. They can be edited out of your selected images.
• Accessorize. Pick out favorite jewelry, hats, scarves or other items we can include.
The day before your session
• Shave and moisturize.
• Get a salon manicure and pedicure. Nails with color look great in photos!
• Have a good look at your bedding. If your linens are wrinkled it will show in the photographs. Wash sheets and pillowcases so they look fresh.
• Clean and clear clutter in any spaces where we will be photographing and remove all items that you do not want to see in your photographs. Cleaning during the session will cut into our planned photography time.
The day of your session
• Use clear deodorant or none at all.
• Wear loose-fitting clothing on the day of session to avoid red marks and indentations on your skin (no jeans, socks or tight clothing as it can take hours for those marks to go away). A button-down shirt if your hair is done.
• Eat something light but filling.
A note about scheduling
Keep track of when you’re expecting your period. Feeling crampy and bloated is the last thing you want during your session so let’s schedule your shoot before or after this week!
Distractions
Please plan to keep children, spouses and partners out of your home while your session is happening as they can be a distraction.
I love pets but please keep them out of the space(s) where will be photographing. They too can be a distraction and sometimes, territorial.
